9-year old Bisma lives in Lahore where she works in a brick kiln with her father and five siblings. She used to study in a non-formal school until, due to financial constraints, she had to leave; the family does not have the resources to give their children an education despite their strong desire to.

It also started looking up when a field team of Bunyad Literacy Community Council (BLCC), an ALIGHT partner, found out about Bisma and met her family. With some efforts, the team convinced the family to send Bisma to school once again. She has an excellent attendance record and dreams of becoming a doctor to serve the poor and the vulnerable, such as bonded laborers. Bisma’s story is the story of every child that dreams of giving authority back to their community.
