January 7, 2020 (Islamabad): His Excellency, Ambassador of Turkey, Ihsan Mustafa Yurdakul, Madame Zlatomira Yurdakul, Turkish Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Emrah Hussain Kurt, Country Coordinator of TİKA Pakistan, Mr. Gökhan Umut, Turkish Counsellor for Education, Mr Ilhami Ayranci, and Director Education of Pak-Turk Schools visited ALIGHT-PAGE STAR schools in Islamabad yesterday.

Alight Pakistan and PAGE are coordinating the nation’s largest ever out-of-school children intervention in collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training and Education Above All, Qatar. The program inducts children into a fast track learning program and equips them with basic literacy skills. PAGE is also a partner of the Million Kids to School program. This school is set up as a partnership between PAGE, ALIGHT Pakistan, with technical partnership with JICA.
The group was received with drums, national anthems of Pakistan and Turkey, and flowers from the students. Director Communication & Outreach of Federal Directorate of Education, Ms. Sameena Zeea, discussed the OOSC enrolment campaign in ICT. The ambassador talked of the two countries’ friendship and distributed gifts to the children.

Pakistan has the second-highest number of OOSC, with at least 5.9 million children under age 9 not attending school. Collaborative efforts of the public, private and development sector as well as philanthropists have been tackling the challenge. The program has developed partnerships with Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), Provincial Departments, and civil society organizations to address the challenge.
